What’s at the Santa Claus Village

Eight kilometres north of Rovaniemi, right on the Arctic Circle, the Santa Claus Village is the region’s most famous attraction — and it’s open every day of the year. Inside you can meet Santa Claus in his office, step across the illuminated Arctic Circle line, post a card home from Santa’s Main Post Office (with a special Arctic Circle postmark), browse Lappish craft shops, warm up in cafés and, in season, watch the whole village glow under Christmas lights and — if you’re lucky — the aurora.

Meeting Santa and crossing the Arctic Circle

Meeting Santa is free, and he’s there year-round, not just at Christmas (official photos taken by the on-site photographer are paid). Crossing the Arctic Circle line is the other must-do moment, and most guided tours include an Arctic Circle crossing certificate as a souvenir. Guided visits add round-trip hotel transfers and a bit of orientation so you don’t waste time finding the highlights.

  • Entry is free — you only pay for individual activities (huskies, reindeer, snowmobiles, ice bar, elf workshops).
  • Getting there: guided tours include pickup; independently, take local bus number 8 or a taxi from the centre.
  • Beat the crowds: visit early morning or in the evening to avoid the midday coach groups — the village is also beautifully lit after dark.
